The Centre of Excellence for Sargassum Research (CESAR) at Lagos State University (LASU), in partnership with Mundus Maris, an NGO committed to environmental stewardship, will host a one-day workshop on the Sustainable Utilisation of Water Weeds on Thursday, 26 February 2026.
The event will take place at two locations on the LASU Main Campus, Ojo: the Opening Session at S.L. Edu Science Hall, Faculty of Science, and the Exhibition & Practical Workshop at CESAR, Old Catering Unit, running from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The workshop is designed to engage students, researchers, entrepreneurs, environmental advocates, and residents of water-impacted communities, providing practical skills and insights into transforming water weeds—such as Water Hyacinth and Sargassum Seaweed—into sustainable products and viable enterprises.
Participants will benefit from:
- Hands-on experience with products derived from aquatic weeds
- Insights into sustainable enterprise development
- Exposure to community-driven environmental solutions
- Opportunities for collaboration, networking, and innovation
This initiative supports LASU’s commitment to collaborative learning, community engagement, and environmental resilience, demonstrating how invasive water weeds can be converted into resources for wealth creation.
The workshop is open to all students, academic and non-teaching staff, researchers, entrepreneurs, and community members. Attendance is strongly encouraged.
