LASU Mourns Student, Otabor Boluwatife Joseph After Fatal Armed Robbery Attack
Lagos State University (LASU) has announced the death of one of its students, Otabor Boluwatife Joseph (Matric No. 240341269), a student of the Department of History and International Studies, Faculty of Arts, who died following injuries sustained during an armed robbery attack in the Iba area of Lagos State.

According to the University, the tragic incident occurred off-campus on the night of Friday, 29th May 2026, when the deceased and his friends were reportedly attacked by armed robbers. He later passed away on Tuesday, 2nd June 2026, after battling injuries sustained in the attack.
The Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, expressed deep sorrow over the incident on behalf of the Management, staff, students, and the entire university community, extending condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
The University disclosed that upon receiving reports of the attack, the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, immediately provided institutional support, escalated the matter to the Vice-Chancellor, and maintained continuous contact with medical personnel involved in the student’s treatment. The institution also monitored his condition closely throughout his hospitalisation.

Following confirmation of his death, the University engaged with his family, officials of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), and law enforcement authorities. LASU further stated that it is cooperating fully with security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack and to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
The University prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul and asked for divine strength for his family and loved ones to bear the loss.
