In preparation for the upcoming convocation ceremony at Lagos State University (LASU), strict guidelines have been issued to all graduands regarding the return of academic gowns and conduct during the event.

According to the university authorities, all academic gowns must be returned immediately after the convocation ceremony and no later than Friday, June 7, 2024, to avoid penalties. Graduands who failed to return their gowns by this deadline would be liable to a fine of Five Hundred Naira (N500:00) per day. Additionally, those who lost or damaged their gowns would be required to pay a replacement fee of Thirty Thousand Naira (N30,000:00).

It has been emphasized that certificates would only be available for collection upon the return of the academic gown.

During the ceremony, first-degree graduands are instructed to move the tassels of their caps from right to left when the Vice-Chancellor declares, "I admit you all." This symbolizes their admission into the body of graduates of LASU. However, higher degree recipients should wear their caps with the tassels placed on the left-hand side.

To ensure proper attire, all graduands are advised to seek assistance from Faculty Officers to ensure that the hood and cap are worn correctly, with the tassels positioned to the right.

Furthermore, female graduands are expected to shake hands with the Vice-Chancellor as a sign of courtesy, while male graduands are instructed to bow without removing their caps.

Parents, guardians, and invited guests are reminded to be seated no later than 8:30 a.m. on each day of the ceremony.

Lastly, it is crucial for graduands to adhere strictly to the schedule outlined by the university. They must join the convocation procession by 9:00 a.m., as those who fail to do so will not be allowed into the auditorium. Additionally, graduands are reminded to be seated in their respective faculty sections within the university auditorium.

These guidelines are aimed at ensuring a smooth and orderly convocation ceremony for all participants and guests.
