LASUSU Students Parliamentary Council Suspends Vice President Over Disrespect to the House
The Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU) Vice President, Comrade Ramon Rihanat, has been suspended for two weeks by the Speaker of the Students’ Parliamentary Council (SPC) due to alleged misconduct during a budget sitting on February 7, 2025.
The Vice President of the Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU), Comrade Ramon Rihanat, has been suspended by the Speaker of the Students’ Parliamentary Council (SPC) following allegations of misconduct during a crucial budget sitting. The suspension, which is set to last two weeks, was announced on February 7, 2025, at the Hallowed Chambers, Students’ Arcade.
The motion for the suspension was raised by an Honourable member of the House, citing Comrade Rihanat’s rude conduct and lack of regard for parliamentary decorum. The motion, seconded by another Honourable member, was subsequently approved and gavelled into effect by the Speaker, Rt. Honourable Adedeji Adeniyi.
Reports indicate that Comrade Rihanat’s conduct during the session was deemed unacceptable, as she allegedly walked out of the sitting and refused to return despite multiple calls from the Speaker. This behavior was described as part of a pattern of disrespect towards the House, raising concerns among members about her attitude towards legislative proceedings.
The suspension was enacted in line with the LASUSU Constitution, which grants the Speaker the authority to preside over joint meetings of the Students’ Executive Council (SEC), Students’ Parliamentary Council (SPC), and Students’ Judicial Council (SJC). In light of the suspension, Okenla Samuel, Secretary of the Standing Committee on Academics, has been appointed as the Acting Vice President of LASUSU, effective immediately.
Despite the Speaker’s official pronouncement, Comrade Rihanat reportedly refused to return to the Chambers. However, her suspension remains valid as declared by the Speaker, marking a significant moment in LASUSU’s governance as the union seeks to uphold discipline and respect within its legislative structure.
