MAAUN School of Computing Organize Workshop on Research Writing
In an effort to acquaint students with the foundational aspects of research writing, the School of Computing at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, conducted a one-day workshop to enhance the students’ academic performance and prepare them for future professional endeavors.
The workshop, which took place on Saturday, was titled “Effective Project Preparation: Skills and Strategies for Undergraduate Success.
Seven distinguished academics, each with over a decade of experience, led the sessions during which students were exposed to the rigors of selecting a research topic, structuring the selected topic, and presenting their research findings.
Among the resource persons for the workshop were the Vice Chancellor of Franco-British International University, Prof. Abdullahi Sabo; the Director of the Institute of Africa Higher Education Research and Innovation, Prof. Abubakar Sadiq; and the Dean of the School of Computing, Prof. Ibrahim Lawan.
Other speakers were Prof. Sola Dada, Dr. Muazu Jibrin, Dr. Olukunle Elijah, and Engineer Yahaya Otuoze.
The seminar focused on fundamental areas such as project topic selection and development, conducting literature reviews, developing methodologies, citation and referencing, as well as a demonstration on academic integrity.
At the end of each session, students were allowed to ask questions, share insights, and explore deeper aspects of the topics discussed for better comprehension.
The seminar was the first of its kind organized by the School of Computing, which aimed to deepen students’ understanding of research and enhance their academic skills.
Speaking earlier, the President of the University, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr noted that Project Writing is a crucial skill for undergraduates to master, which enables them to apply theoretical knowledge in solving practical problems.
He appreciated the organizers of the event who worked tirelessly to make the program a success.
