Methodist High School Alumni Donate N50 Million Classrooms to Alma Mater

Methodist High School Alumni Donate N50 Million Classrooms to Alma Mater

The alumni of Methodist High School, Idanre, located in Ondo State, showcased their commitment to the progress of their alma mater by donating a block of six classrooms to the school. The donation, valued at N50 million, was made by the old students under the banner of the Methodist High School Old Students Association.

Dr. Dokun Dairo, the Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the association, explained during the inauguration that the gesture aimed to collaborate with the government in enhancing the school's development. The generous donation comprised both monetary contributions from numerous former students and material donations from association members.

Dairo emphasized the cost-effectiveness of the project, stating, "The project cost over N50 million because a close person covered it for us, who also did this as a community development." He highlighted that if contracted out, the project could have incurred an estimated cost of N150 million. The alumni undertook the construction using direct labor, managing the project themselves.

Acknowledging the efforts of previous alumni in supporting the school's infrastructure, Dairo mentioned, "Before now, a lot of our old friends have been using their influence to help the school maintain infrastructure or add infrastructure to the school."

While expressing appreciation for the government's contributions to Methodist High School, Mr. Akinnagbe, a member of the association and Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Universal Basics Education Board, called for continued government support in providing facilities to schools across the state. He stressed the importance of private sector involvement in tertiary education to complement government efforts.

The association's initiative reflects a broader call for collaborative efforts between stakeholders and the government to address challenges in the Nigerian education system, particularly in primary and secondary education.
