Modibbo Adama University Faces Electricity Blackout Over Unpaid Bills

Modibbo Adama University, Yola, has been plunged into darkness for two weeks due to a dispute with Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) over unpaid electricity bills.

According to university authorities, YEDC disconnected the institution from the national grid over an outstanding bill of ₦63 million for August 2024.

Despite paying 25% of the bill, YEDC insists on a minimum 50% payment before restoring power.

The university management has apologized to students and staff, citing financial constraints and assuring that efforts are underway to resolve the issue.

"This blackout has caused significant hardship for our community, and we're working diligently to restore power," a university spokesperson said.

The blackout has affected academic activities, research, and daily life on campus.
