In a historic achievement, Dr. Cynthia Kudji Sylvester and her daughter, Dr. Jasmine Kudji, have etched their names in medical history by simultaneously earning their medical degrees from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS) in the United States.

This extraordinary mother-daughter duo has made headlines after completing their medical studies at UMHS and embarking on their medical residencies at Louisiana State University Health System. Dr. Cynthia Kudji Sylvester, originally from Ghana, shared the pivotal moment that ignited her journey into medicine.

At the age of 19, during a family trip to Ghana, she encountered a child in need of medical attention. This encounter profoundly influenced her decision to become a doctor, setting the stage for her aspirations. However, her journey took an unexpected turn when she became pregnant with her daughter Jasmine during her senior year at Tulane University.

Undeterred by the challenges, Dr. Cynthia Kudji Sylvester pursued a bachelor's degree in Biology and later entered nursing school at William Carey University. She subsequently earned a Master's of Science in Nursing from Loyola University, working as a Registered Nurse and a Nursing Assistant for almost a decade.
