The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has swiftly reacted to the horrific killing of a Nigerian medical student in the Philippines, identified as Ikem. The student body has called for justice and a thorough investigation into the matter.

Ikem was tragically killed, allegedly after a violent attack by a group of Chinese restaurant workers in the Philippines, the exact details of which remain uncertain.

According to Michael Ojuola, a close friend of the deceased, Ikem was subjected to a brutal and inhumane ordeal. Ojuola reported that Ikem's hands were tied, his mouth was covered, and he was mercilessly beaten, resulting in his tragic death.

He shared his despair on social media, stating, “A friend of mine, A Nigerian Medical Student named Ikem studying in the Republic of Philippines was brutally murdered by a group of Chinese. They tied his hands up, covered and tied his mouth and was beaten blue-black until he gave up the ghost. This should never be allowed to get swept under the carpet regardless of the relationship between the Philippines and China. This is so inhuman and barbaric! I can’t even think straight at the moment because of the horrific videos I’m getting right now from the hospital.”

Ojuola has called upon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, and other relevant authorities to address this deeply disturbing incident.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has unequivocally condemned the alleged killing. In a statement delivered by its Vice President on External Affairs, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, NANS has demanded justice and called on the government of the Philippines to identify and bring the perpetrators of this horrendous crime to justice.

The student body expressed profound grief and shock over the circumstances surrounding the death of one of their own on foreign soil.
