In a bid to understand the reason behind the industrial action of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU BSU Chapter, earlier today, the National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS), under the leadership of Amb. Yoosu Skyt Soonen nominated a five-person committee to investigate the sudden strike.
On the committee were:
Igba Seth Andrew as the Chairman
Journalist James Nelson as the Secretary
Yoosu Kenneth Skally Scouty as the Member
Ashely Kyado as the Member
Dooga T Erasmus as the Member
Although unable to interface with the ASUU Chairman, the committee collected reliable information on why the industrial action was necessary from anonymous sources. The sources stated that the University had taken them for a fool because of their leniency.
Notable among the reasons collected was.
1. The inability of the University Management to carry out payment of promoted staff
2. The inability of the University Management to manage GST-generated fees as supposed.
3. The University Management's refusal to grant University Staff a Health Insurance Scheme.
4. Unwarranted Staff rent Increment by the University Management
5. Misplacement of priority as seen in the new multimillion billboard project at the roundabout at the first gate.
6. Inability of the Management to give a reasonable budget for granted funds
7. Lack of solution-proferring initiative by the University Management
While we look forward to meeting with the School Management soon, we must distance ourselves from the action displayed by some supposed students at the gate at the same hour as the ASUU BSU Chapter strike.
Reports reaching us disclosed that a group of suspected students stopped the ASUU members from holding a meeting on the school campus, which is why the meeting was held at the School gate with the ASUU Chapter Chairman reading out to his fellows inside the school because they couldn't get in.
Against this backdrop, the National Union of Benue State Students wishes to apologize for the rascality displayed earlier by that group of misbehaving students. We, however, look forward to resolving the issue and bringing back the students on campus for the continuity of academic activities.
