Nationwide Strike: KADPOLY Students Barred From Campus

According to reports, labour officials complied with the strike in Kaduna by locking students of Kaduna Polytechnic out of their campus. Union officials arrived at the Unguwan Rimi Campus of the school as early as 7 am, evicting the students and securing the gate.

Nationwide Strike: KADPOLY Students Barred From Campus

In response to the indefinite nationwide strike initiated by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), students of Kaduna Polytechnic (KADPOLY) have been locked out from their campus by labour officials.

The NLC and TUC, Nigeria’s two primary workers’ unions, announced an indefinite strike across the country starting from Monday. This announcement was made at a press conference in Abuja, with numerous other workers’ unions, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), joining in.

The strike aims to pressure the government into agreeing on a new minimum wage for workers and reconsidering the recent hike in electricity prices for certain consumers.

Several students expressed their disapproval of the incident, urging the labour unions to resume negotiations. They expressed concerns that their academic schedule would be disrupted if the strike persisted.

The strike have also led to a halt in activities in schools across the country. Students who had already arrived at school were sent home.
