In an unprecedented political move, a group of students in Anambra State who are beneficiaries of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) have collectively donated ₦10,735,500 toward the purchase of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s expression of interest form for the 2027 presidential election.

The announcement was made during a gathering on Friday, May 8, 2026, at the ETF Hall of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Igbariam campus.

The donation serves as a "symbolic expression of gratitude" for the President’s educational reforms, specifically the NELFUND scheme, which the students say has prevented many from dropping out of school due to financial constraints.

The initiative was led by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Joint Campus Council in Anambra State, chaired by Ifeanyichukwu Chukwuemeka.

Impact of NELFUND: Student leaders praised the loan scheme for its "transformative impact," noting it has disbursed over ₦86 billion to students nationwide, significantly easing the burden of tuition and upkeep.

The move has sparked intense debate across Nigerian social media and political circles. While supporters view it as a genuine sign of youth confidence in the administration’s policies, critics have raised ethical questions about students who rely on government loans funding a multi-million naira political campaign during an economic downturn.

Several prominent figures were recognized during the event for their roles in youth mobilization, including Obi Cubana (South-East Coordinator for the City Boys Movement) and Nonso Ozoemena.
