Nigeria Police Force Marks 2026 Police Week with Strategic Security Lecture at Northwest University Kano
As part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Week, the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, held a sensitization lecture at the Professor Hafiz Abubakar Auditorium, City Campus of Northwest University Kano.
The 2026 National Police Week, which commenced on Monday, March 30, is themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust” and is aimed at strengthening collaboration between the police and the public. The week-long event will culminate in the grand finale of National Police Day scheduled to hold on April 7, 2026, at Eagle Square, Abuja.

Leading the police delegation to the University was the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
In her opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, expressed appreciation to the Kano State Police Command for selecting the institution as part of the activities commemorating the Police Week. She commended the officers for taking time to engage and sensitize members of the University community on critical security issues.
Professor Bayero urged participants to listen attentively and benefit from the wealth of experience shared by the security experts, emphasizing the importance of awareness and proactive measures in maintaining a safe academic environment.
The first lecture was delivered by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who spoke extensively on crime prevention strategies. He called on students and staff to remain vigilant, security-conscious, and proactive in reporting suspicious activities within and around the University.
Similarly, the second lecture was presented by ACP Manir Madugu, who also emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring security. He stressed the need for cooperation between the police and the University community in tackling emerging security challenges.
In his remarks, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori noted that the Police Week activities are designed to build public confidence and promote community policing. He urged members of the University community to actively support security agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious movements.
The Commissioner of Police further directed the PPRO to initiate the establishment of a Community Policing structure within the University, aimed at strengthening collaboration and improving campus security. He also encouraged the University community to continuously assess police performance and provide feedback where necessary.
Delivering the closing remarks, the Registrar of the University Dr. Adm. Isyaku Adamu expressed gratitude to the CP and his entourage for bringing the Police Week activities to Northwest University Kano. He described the visit as a reflection of the strong and cordial relationship between the two institutions.
The Registrar assured the Police Command that the selection of members for the proposed Community Policing initiative would be based on character, integrity, and commitment, adding that the process would commence soon.
The event also witnessed the participation of several key stakeholders, including Hajiya Zainab Nasir Ahmad of YOSPIS, the Dean of Student affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Musa, and the Acting Director of Security, Bala Lawan Kofar Naisa.

Members of the CP’s entourage included his wife, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar Bakori, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), DCP Lawan Isa Mani, and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (CID), DCP Shehu Idris, among others.
The lecture forms part of broader efforts by the Nigeria Police Force to deepen engagement with communities and promote a safer society through partnership and trust-building initiatives.
