Nigerian Man Confesses to K!lling Undergraduate Girlfriend Before Fleeing to Sierra Leone
Augusta Onuwabhagbe, a 21-year-old undergraduate student at Lead City University in Ibadan, Oyo State, reportedly lost her life in a tragic incident of violence at their residence in Ikota, Lagos State, involving her lover, Benjamin.
A Nigerian man, Best Nnanyereugo Benjamin, has been arrested in Sierra Leone for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, Augusta Oseodion Onuwabhagbe, on July 13, 2023. Benjamin, who had been declared wanted by the Lagos State Police Command, was apprehended in Sierra Leone, and he subsequently confessed to the crime.

While on the run, Benjamin confessed to the crime through his Instagram account, expressing deep remorse for his actions. He detailed the circumstances leading to the tragedy, citing pain, betrayal, and toxic arguments. He declared his willingness to face the consequences for his actions, emphasizing that taking a life can never be justified.
In his Instagram post, he stated, "I got into an argument with my girlfriend... in which fight I mistakenly stabbed her and ran away out of fear and been suicidal since then. I want to do the right thing and turn myself in. I will gladly die by paying with my life now."

Following these purported confessions, Benjamin fled to Sierra Leone and assumed a new identity, Kanu Princeton Samuel, while obtaining a Sierra Leonean passport. His arrest was made by the Sierra Leonean police 15 days after the alleged murder.
Family sources expressed gratitude to the bereaved family of Augusta, the Lagos State Police Command for declaring the suspect wanted, and the Sierra Leonean police authorities for the swift arrest of the suspect.
