NLNG, NCDMB Delegation Assesses Research Centre Project at Modibbo Adama University, Yola

A delegation from Nigeria LNG Limited, NLNG, and the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, has paid a courtesy visit to Modibbo Adama University, MAU, Yola, to assess the readiness of facilities for ongoing research and development interventions at the institution.  

The delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Umar, who expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to partnerships that drive research, innovation, and academic excellence.  

Prof. Umar said the University Management has remained committed to its obligations by providing the necessary facilities and a conducive environment for successful project implementation. He noted that while major equipment has been provided, the remodeling of the Central Laboratory is yet to be completed.

He thanked NLNG for donating professional chairs valued at a significant amount, describing the intervention as a major boost to research development, innovation, and capacity building.  

On sustainability, the Vice-Chancellor recalled that inadequate electricity supply was identified as a key challenge during the initial assessment. He announced that the facility has now been integrated into the University’s solar power system, ensuring uninterrupted 24-hour electricity for research and laboratory activities.

Prof. Umar further appealed for flexibility in the utilization of funds attached to the professional chair, to enable the University to address other critical needs. These include completion of the Electrical Engineering Laboratory, installation of energy transmission equipment, road construction, procurement of computers aligned with project objectives, and acquisition of additional laboratory equipment.  

Leading the delegation, Dr. (Mrs.) Sophia Horsfall, thanked the University Management for the warm reception. She said the visit was to assess the readiness of the Research and Development Centre ahead of the provision of furnishing and additional equipment earlier promised by NLNG.

Responding to the request, Dr. Horsfall emphasized that the Board remains committed to ensuring all interventions and funds are utilized strictly for their approved purposes in line with established guidelines.  

After the meeting, the delegation, accompanied by University Management, inspected ongoing work at the Central Laboratory and toured the University’s solar power plant to observe its investment in sustainable energy infrastructure.  

The visit highlights MAU’s growing reputation under Prof. Ibrahim Umar as a forward-looking institution committed to research excellence, innovation, and strategic partnerships for national development.
