Northwest University Kano Hosts Second Annual Mentorship Programme

Northwest University Kano from Monday 24th to Thursday 27th November 2025 successfully hosted the Second Annual Mentorship Programme, an inspiring initiative pioneered by Dr. Rabi’atu Kabir Mustapha of the Department of Chemistry. Building on the success of last year’s maiden edition, the 2025 programme further strengthened the university’s commitment to nurturing excellence, leadership, and innovation among its students.

This year’s event, which held at the Professor Hafiz Abubakar Auditorium, was organized in collaboration with the Deanery of Student Affairs, under the leadership of the Dean, Students Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Musa. The programme attracted a large turnout of students as well as academic and non-academic staff from across the university community.

The acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Aisha Garba Habib, was ably represented by the Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Development, Dr. Latifat Muhibuddeen, who in her remarks commended Dr. Mustapha for her dedication to student development. She emphasized the importance of mentorship in shaping well-rounded graduates equipped with the skills and confidence to excel in competitive global spaces.

The event featured motivational sessions, interactive discussions, skill-enhancement activities, and presentations designed to guide students in academic planning, career readiness, entrepreneurship, and personal growth. A highlight of the programme was the recognition and rewarding of outstanding participants.

The following students emerged as the top performers for the 2025 edition:

1st Position:

Rukayyah Hassan (UG24BCH1016), Biochemistry

Cash Prize: ₦100,000

Cash Prize: ₦20,000

All three awardees also received free tickets to attend the Mu Inganta Conference, a major platform for personal and professional development.

In addition to the prizes, Alhassan Atama, the CEO of All for Tech, offered internship opportunities to the winners, giving them the chance to gain hands-on experience in a technology-driven work environment.

The University Management commended Dr. Rabi’atu Kabir Mustapha for sustaining this impactful initiative and encouraged more staff to emulate her commitment to student mentorship and empowerment. The 2025 edition concluded with a renewed call for continuous collaboration, innovation, and student-centered development within the university.
