Northwest University Kano Management Addresses Accessibility Concerns at City Campus

The Management of Northwest University, Kano, has officially responded to a recent social media complaint regarding accessibility challenges at its City Campus at Gidan Ado Bayero, Kofar Nassarawa.

In a bulletin released on Monday, March 16, 2026, the university acknowledged the difficulties faced by students—particularly those with special needs—in accessing lecture halls on upper floors due to the temporary non-functionality of the elevators.

The university clarified that the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has already prioritized the rehabilitation and installation of new elevators at the campus.

80% Completion: Installation of the first lift is nearing completion and is expected to be operational shortly.

Ongoing Rehabilitation: Work on the second elevator is currently in progress.

Management specifically lauded the student body for their "remarkable spirit of solidarity," noting the support they have provided to their colleagues during this period. The university reaffirmed its commitment to providing an inclusive academic environment that is conducive to the success of all students, including those with physical challenges.

The Head of the Public Relations Unit, Abubakar Ibrahim, speaking on behalf of the Registrar, urged students and staff to remain calm as the government and relevant authorities work to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

The institution remains dedicated to ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to upgrade the campus infrastructure to meet international accessibility standards.
