The Management of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has officially announced its 15th Convocation Ceremonies, set to take place from Friday, 17th to Saturday, 18th April 2026.
In a statement signed by the Registrar, Mr. Oladejo A. Ajayi, the university detailed a hybrid format for the event, combining on-site proceedings at the Abuja Headquarters with off-site participation at State Capital Study Centres across the federation.
The festivities will commence on Friday, 17th April, with a Pre-Convocation Lecture titled to be delivered by Chief Kanu Godwin Agabi, SAN, CON, former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. The lecture will be held at the NOUN Conference Centre in Jabi, Abuja, at 11:00 a.m., and streamed live for graduands nationwide.
The Grand Finale and Award of Degrees will follow on Saturday, 18th April, at 10:00 a.m.
To ensure a structured ceremony, the university has categorized participation as follows:
All First Class graduands, award winners, Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master’s, Doctorate, and Honorary degree recipients.
Off-site (State Capital Study Centres): All other undergraduate degree graduates will participate from their respective state capitals via a dedicated livestream.
Graduands are advised that the collection of academic gowns and hoods will begin on Monday, 9th March 2026, at their various Study Centres. Undergraduate and Master’s graduands are required to pay a fee of ₦55,000, which includes a ₦20,000 refundable deposit for the gown.
A fee of ₦100,000 is required for the outright purchase of the doctoral academic raiment.
In a significant move to streamline post-graduation processes, certificates will be available for collection immediately following the ceremonies.
Security and Protocol
The university maintains a strict "No Gown, No Entry" policy. Guests and graduands are expected to be seated by 9:00 a.m. on the convocation day. Additionally, the management has prohibited the carriage of luggage, handbags, or personal effects into the Convocation Arena for security reasons.
The Registrar congratulated the upcoming graduates, noting that this milestone reflects their hard work and the university's commitment to providing accessible, high-quality higher education.
