The National Universities Commission (NUC) has given the green light for 25 degree programmes to commence at the newly established Adeyemi University of Education, Ondo, starting with the 2023/2024 academic session. This approval follows President Bola Tinubu’s directive to upgrade the former Adeyemi College of Education to a full-fledged university.

Dr. Samuel Akintunde, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor of Adeyemi University, announced the NUC’s approval during a press briefing held in celebration of the institution's 60th anniversary. Dr. Akintunde highlighted the university’s successful transition, emphasizing that it now operates as an independent Federal University of Education.

In addressing the welfare of staff affected by the transition, Dr. Akintunde mentioned that the Minister of Education, Prof. Mamman Tahir, has been actively involved, approving measures to support staff and ensuring funding provisions for ongoing teaching practice for the remaining NCE programmes.

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Prof. Tunde Babawale is scheduled to deliver the university lecture, while Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will present the diamond anniversary lecture. Dr. Akintunde assured that the university will maintain its tradition of high academic standards and will not impose exorbitant tuition fees.
