NUC Approves Law, Pharmacy, Medical Lab, Others for FULOKOJA, Assents Affiliation with Auchi Polytechnic

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved new academic programmes for Federal University Lokoja (FUL).

The programmes are LL.B. Law, Pharm.D. Doctor of Pharmacy, B. Agriculture, B. Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS), and B.Ed. Educational Management and Planning.

The approval was contained in a letter conveyed by the Agency's Ag. Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei and addressed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, which he read to members of the Senate of the University at an emergency meeting held on Thursday, 23rd May 2024.

Dated 20th May 2024, the letter read in part: “The Vice-Chancellor is pleased invited to recall that a resource verification visit was carried out by panels of experts to some proposed academic programmes at Federal University Lokoja, Kogi State with a view to assessing the human and material resources available for their establishment.

I am directed to inform the Vice-Chancellor that the Ag. Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the full-time mode of the undergraduate programmes to be run in the Main Campus of the University with effect from 2024/2025 academic session.”

Similarly, in another letter, the regulatory agency also considered and approved the full-time mode of eight (8) academic programmes to be run at the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State in affiliation with Federal University Lokoja. The programmes include: B.Sc. Microbiology, B.Sc Biochemistry, B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry, B.Sc. Public Administration, B.Sc. Banking and Finance, B.Sc. Mass Communication, B.Sc. Computer Science, and B.Sc. Statistics.

While making the announcement on the floor of Senate, the Vice-Chancellor who was elated, thanked Senate members and members of Management for their unflinching support and cooperation that have helped his administration record remarkable progress in bringing more development to the fast-growing citadel of learning.

Recall that at his inauguration in February 2021, Professor Akinwumi announced that one of his strategic vision plans was to establish new academic programmes for the Institution. His administration has pursued this vision religiously and established programmes like MB;BS Medicine and Surgery, B.Sc Nursing Science, B. Eng. Computer Engineering, B. Eng. Electrical Electronics Engineering, B. Eng. Mechanical Engineering, providing applicants with many choices.

Undoubtedly, the erudite Professor of history has continued to turn his vision into reality, galvanizing every support from both government and well-meaning private individuals to take FUL to a greater height.
