The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has launched a nationwide environmental sanitation exercise to promote healthy living. He emphasized the critical importance of maintaining clean and healthy environments for overall well-being. This declaration came during the flag-off ceremony for the 2024 National Environmental Sanitation Exercise held at Karu, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

In his address, delivered by the Director of Community Development Service and Special Projects, Hajiya Zainab Isah, General Ahmed emphasized on the significance of environmental sanitation in fostering a healthy living environment. He urged Nigerians, particularly residents of the Karu community, to prioritize cleanliness in their households, workplaces, and public spaces.

"Preservation and maintenance of a clean and healthy environment are essential prerequisites for a healthy living," General Ahmed reiterated, highlighting the role that individual and collective efforts play in safeguarding public health.

General Ahmed lamented the global neglect of environmental sanitation, noting its repercussions in the form of epidemics and diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and malaria. He emphasized the need for concerted action to address this pressing issue and mitigate its adverse effects on public health and well-being.
