OAU VC Charges FG for Intervention in Power Project
The Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, Prof Simeon Bamire, charged the Federal government to assist the institution in completing its age-long power project to address arbitrary electricity charges.
The Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife, Prof Simeon Bamire, charged the Federal government to assist the institution in completing its age-long power project to address arbitrary electricity charges, on Saturday, at the institution’s 47th Convocation ceremony.
Professor Bamire described availability of constant electricity as a necessity for the university to attend to it’s numerous challenges related to electricity, he also stated that, ”we have to contend with ensuring a stable power supply by paying the increased electricity charges to the University to fulfil the numerous municipal responsibilities.
He stressed that, stability of power supply will further provide basic equipment and materials needed for classroom teaching and for carrying out ground-breaking research.

According to the Vice Chancellor, “However, I want to inform you that the diminishing funding capacities of the university have hamstrung more development than we would have had. Regularly, we have to contend with ensuring a stable power supply by paying the increased electricity charges to the University. “
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Simeon Bamire thereafter urged the federal government to intervene in the University power project with a view to ensuring that it does not become an abandoned project.
