Professor Akhaine's lecture, titled "Taming the Leviathan: Between Authoritarianism and 'Reason of State'," highlighted the critical role of effective governance, transparency, and inclusive policies in mitigating the risk of military intervention. Drawing parallels with Kenya's political situation, he argued that corruption, ineffective leadership, and disregard for democratic norms create conditions ripe for instability and coups.

He asserted that countries prioritizing accountability, rule of law, and responsive governance structures are less likely to experience coups. Such nations address grievances through democratic means, fostering national unity and reducing the risk of military intervention. Historical examples cited by Professor Akhaine demonstrated that widespread dissatisfaction with governance often leads factions to view military intervention as a necessary means to restore order or address injustices.
