Around 230 students of Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri are at risk of expulsion due to allegations of securing admissions through fraudulent means. The university has been embroiled in a scandal involving admission racketeering, prompting investigations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
JAMB officials uncovered 230 fake admission letters linked to IMSU, prompting swift action by the ICPC. Approximately 10 university staff members, including those from the admissions office, were arrested in connection with the racketeering. IMSU's Vice Chancellor cooperated with authorities, ensuring no one implicated was spared from scrutiny.

JAMB spokesperson Fabian Benjamin confirmed that the affected students, whose names appeared on the fraudulent admission letters, have been interrogated. Regardless of their current academic level—ranging from 300 to 400 level—their admissions are slated for withdrawal. IMSU's spokesperson, Ralph Njokuobi, expressed bewilderment over the situation, emphasizing the university's lack of knowledge regarding the perpetrators behind the fake admissions.
