Oyinlola, who established the university during his administration, expressed satisfaction that the institution has fulfilled the vision behind its creation. Speaking through his wife, Omolola Oyinlola, at the maiden edition of the Folorunso Alakija Annual Lecture organized by the university, he commended Alakija for her unwavering commitment, generosity, and personal investment in the growth and development of the institution.
According to him, Apostle Alakija dedicated not only her time but also significant financial resources to ensure that UNIOSUN continues to thrive and expand.
Delivering the keynote lecture titled *“A Life of Impact and Legacy of Service: Lessons from Apostle Folorunso Alakija,”* renowned legal luminary Yusuf Ali urged students, scholars, and leaders to emulate Alakija’s exemplary lifestyle of service and philanthropy.
Ali, a former Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of UNIOSUN, highlighted how Alakija invested billions of naira into the university despite not being an indigene of Osun State. He noted that her life remains a model of moral leadership, purposeful living, and service to humanity.
He stressed that true greatness should not be measured by wealth, titles, or influence, but by the positive impact made on people, communities, and institutions.
“The measure of a life is not found merely in titles held, wealth accumulated, or influence attained. It is found in impact made, lives transformed, communities strengthened, values embodied, institutions elevated, and hope inspired,” Ali stated.
He further described the annual lecture as more than a celebration of an individual’s achievements, saying it serves as a challenge to others to reflect on the kind of legacy they intend to leave behind.
Also speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIOSUN, Odunayo Adebooye, acknowledged the immense contributions of the former Chancellor to the university’s growth and transformation.
Prof. Adebooye revealed that Alakija donated N250 million toward the construction of the access road leading to the university and later funded the development of a state-of-the-art medical research and training hospital valued at N34 billion.
He described her interventions as monumental and instrumental to the continued advancement of the institution, noting that her legacy would remain deeply rooted in the history and future of UNIOSUN.
