Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde Reiterates Commitment to Prioritizing Education

He highlighted education as a top priority for his administration, and he noted that it takes precedence over other policies.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Nigeria, reaffirmed his administration's dedication to education during the inaugural Education Day celebration, titled 'A Day With His Excellency.' The event took place at the Emeritus Professor Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall, UCH, Ibadan.

The administration has also been actively working to enhance the educational environment. It has initiated the removal of shops located around school fences and plans to create a conducive atmosphere for both students and teachers.
Makinde's administration, under the policies Omitutun 1.0 and Omituntun 2.0, recruited around 5,000 teachers to improve the quality of education in the state. He expressed his confidence in the Ministry of Education's continued dedication to delivering quality education.

The governor recognized the significance of accessibility, affordability, and capacity building in the education sector, ensuring that students have the basic access they need. He announced the establishment of a new campus in Iseyin and the full ownership of Ladoke Akintola University by the state government, where over a thousand students have been relocated to continue their studies in agricultural development.
Makinde commended parents, particularly those whose children received awards, emphasizing that their support for education plays a crucial role in the future success of their children. He encouraged them to maintain their support and generosity.Despite financial constraints, Oyo State is sustaining three fully owned universities, including LAUTECH, Tech-U, and Emmanuel Alayande University. The governor highlighted the administration's efforts to address the crisis faced by LAUTECH, which was previously unowned.

The Commissioner for Education, Professor Solihu Adelabu, also underscored the administration's commitment to investing in infrastructure and human capital development. He stated that the government budgets between 15% to 20% of its annual budget for education, which is yielding positive results for students.In recognition of academic excellence, the commissioner announced that the seven best students out of the 24 students celebrated would receive rewards, with the top students receiving 100,000 Naira each, while others would be awarded 50,000 and 25,000 Naira respectively.
The event concluded with an appreciation of all stakeholders, including parents, teachers, and school administrators, for their contributions to improving education in the state. The commissioner emphasized that the government's goal is to provide sound and qualitative education to its citizens and expressed gratitude to all who had contributed to this objective.Governor Makinde's administration continues to prioritize education in Oyo State, aiming to provide students with a strong educational foundation and ample opportunities for success.
