The 45th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Physics (NIP) was held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the Mahmud Tukur Theater, Old Campus, Bayero University Kano (BUK).

The theme, "Physics and Advancements: Pathways to Economic and Technological Developments," was deemed apt considering the current global economic crisis.

NIP President, Professor J.O Coker, emphasized the crucial role physics plays in driving technological advances and economic growth. He urged the Federal and state governments to empower NIP to enhance the study of physics at basic and tertiary levels.

Professor Yusuf Aminu Ahmed, in his keynote address, "Energy from Atom: Pathway to Economic and Technological Development of Nigeria," highlighted the potential of physics in addressing Nigeria's economic challenges. He stressed that harnessing nuclear physics could solve Nigeria's perennial power issues, boost industrial growth, and improve overall economic development.

BUK Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, declared the conference open, emphasizing the significance of physics in addressing unemployment and infrastructural development challenges.
