President Bola Tinubu has commended the management and staff of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, for their collaborative efforts with his administration in advancing the nation's economic diversification. Speaking as the special guest at the 11th Convocation of the University, Tinubu praised the institution for realizing its mission and vision.

Tinubu, represented by the Executive Director of Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, Garba Sharabutu, emphasized the significance of good education and national development as fundamental principles of his government. He acknowledged the University's dedication amid the challenges facing the nation and highlighted the crucial role of scientists and experts in supporting Nigeria's journey towards economic diversification.

"As the nation grapples with the challenges of diversifying her economy, Nigeria certainly needs the solid support of her scientists and experts. Your technical skills and expertise will continue to be required until we get to the promised land where food security is achieved as a nation," Tinubu stated.

The Vice Chancellor of MOUAU, Professor Maduebibisi Ofor Iwe, expressed the institution's achievements under his leadership. He appealed to the National Universities Commission (NUC) to reinstate courses previously discontinued, asserting that it would increase student enrollment and provide more opportunities for admission seekers.

Professor Iwe also called on the Federal government to release the take-off grant of the University, as recommended by the 2016-2020 Visitation Panel report. He congratulated the graduating students and urged them to be ambassadors of MOUAU.

During the convocation, it was announced that 121 students achieved First Class honors out of 8369 graduating scholars. The best graduating student, Nicholas Chukwuka from the Department of Computer Engineering, with a remarkable 4.9 CGPA, was recognized. The Vice Chancellor encouraged present students to uphold good conduct, while the best graduating student thanked the institution for its support.

The ceremony concluded with calls for continued collaboration between educational institutions and the government to drive economic diversification and foster national development.
