MOUAU Vice Chancellor Appeals to NUC for Reinstatement of Delisted Courses

The Vice Chancellor (VC) of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Professor Maduebibisi Iwe, has passionately appealed to the National Universities Commission (NUC) to reconsider and reinstate academic courses that were delisted from the university in previous years. Professor Iwe made this heartfelt plea during the 11th convocation ceremony of the university held on Saturday.

Expressing the gravity of the situation, the VC described the loss of these courses as a major challenge facing the institution. He lamented that the delisting had not only affected the university but also denied numerous admission seekers the opportunity to pursue their desired courses at MOUAU.

In addition to the appeal for course reinstatement, Professor Iwe also sought the release of N10 billion in take-off funds, a recommendation put forth by the 2016-2020 Presidential Visitation Panel. These funds, he emphasized, would play a crucial role in addressing the university's financial needs and fostering further growth.

Highlighting the academic achievements under his leadership, Professor Iwe proudly announced that 121 out of 8,369 graduating students achieved First Class honors. The top graduate, Nicholas Chukwuka of the Computer Engineering Department, earned distinction with an impressive 4.90 CGPA.

However, the VC cautioned students against late returns to school upon resumption, citing the adverse impact on the academic calendar. He also urged parents and guardians to utilize the university's payment platforms for school fees, emphasizing the importance of financial discipline.

The convocation ceremony saw President Bola Tinubu, the Visitor to MOUAU, acknowledging the dedication of the university's management and staff in the face of numerous challenges confronting the nation. Represented by Garba Sharabutu, the Executive Director of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, President Tinubu emphasized the crucial role of agricultural scientists and experts in supporting the nation's efforts to diversify the economy.
