The Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) expressed commendation towards President Bola Tinubu for suspending the deduction of 40% from the internally generated revenues (IGR) of Federal Government-owned tertiary institutions. The union, in a statement, described the policy as "backward" and affirmed its commitment to resist any attempt to reintroduce it.

While appreciating the suspension, COEASU urged President Tinubu to utilize this positive disposition to address funding challenges in the College of Education system and other tertiary education sectors. The union emphasized the importance of social dialogue and collective bargaining in resolving issues raised by labor, fostering industrial tranquility, and maintaining an uninterrupted academic calendar. COEASU also called for attention to other pressing matters, including the centralization of payroll administration through the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
