Public Educational Institutions Hope of a Common Man - Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin

Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has emphasized the importance of public educational institutions, stating that they remain the hope of the common man.

He urged governments at all levels to ensure proper and adequate funding to provide affordable quality education to citizens.

Speaking at the commissioning of the School of Postgraduate Studies and the Advancement Office at Bayero University, Kano, on Friday, Senator Barau noted that the cost of attending private universities and schools is prohibitively expensive for the average citizen. Therefore, governments must provide necessary funding to ensure public schools have adequate teaching and instructional materials, creating a conducive learning environment.

"We all know that a greater percentage of people in this country cannot afford fees at private schools. Therefore, the best thing to do is to improve facilities at public schools for the benefit of all," Senator Barau said.

He commended the management of Bayero University, Kano, under the leadership of Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, for their prudent resource management and commitment to making the university great. Senator Barau was impressed with the university's ranking as the 5th best in the country in terms of quality teaching and research, as well as its 1016th global ranking out of over 40,000 universities assessed by the UK-based Times Higher Education International assessor.

"I am delighted with the facilities I saw here in BUK and the current status of the university amongst the comity of tertiary institutions. This is commendable and impressive. We shall do our best to ensure improved funding of universities," Senator Barau vowed.
