Remarkable Achievement: Couple Graduates Together from UI Master's Program

Having previously graduated with their first degrees in Yoruba and Linguistics, respectively, from the same department at the premier university, Ajao and Omolaja continued their academic pursuit at the Master's level. Their journey as a couple commenced in 2015 when Ajao, a practicing journalist, proposed to Omolaja during her final year as an undergraduate.

In a heartwarming accomplishment, the University of Ibadan is set to confer Master's degrees upon a unique couple, Olawale Ajao and Alimot Ekundayo Omolaja, both from the Department of Linguistics and African Languages. The couple, among the 4,897 graduands to be honored at the International Conference Centre of the institution, shares not only their educational journey but also a life built on love and academic pursuit.

While Omolaja was three years ahead of her husband at the Master's level, fate aligned their graduation years due to two deferments on maternal grounds by Omolaja.

Ajao, a correspondent for Alaroye newspapers in Oyo State, has not only excelled in journalism but has also been a fervent advocate for the preservation and promotion of Yoruba culture. His dedication to this cause has earned him several awards, including the "Best Promoter of Yoruba Culture" by the Correspondents’ Chapel of Oyo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in 2012.
