The visit aimed to strengthen partnerships and develop actionable strategies for the Niger Delta region.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi welcomed the UNEP team, expressing gratitude for selecting RSU as a key partner. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to advancing environmental research and promoting sustainable development across the region.
UNEP Team Leader Ms. Mira Gratier noted that the delegation’s mission includes assessing local climate challenges and evaluating policy impacts from 2025 to 2050. She highlighted the role of collaboration with UNITAR and other local stakeholders in generating practical recommendations for climate action.

During the engagement, Prof. Hudson Ukoima, Director of the Advancement and Linkages Centre, underscored the importance of raising awareness on climate issues. Dr. (Mrs.) Augusta Ayotamuno, Acting Head of the Department of Environmental Management, emphasized that environmental protection is a collective responsibility requiring active participation from all sectors.
The meeting set the stage for future joint research, policy assessment, and sustainable development initiatives between RSU and UNEP.
