Rotary Renovates Ogun State School, Health Center

Rotary Club of Agbara (District 9110 of Nigeria) has renovated a school building at Agbara Grammar School in Ogun State. The club decided to undertake the renovation due to the dilapidated and neglected state of the school building.

The Rotary Club of Agbara (District 9110 of Nigeria) has renovated a school building at Agbara Grammar School in Ogun State, as a part of their initiative to improve educational opportunities for disadvantaged communities.

Joshua Cole, the club’s president, stated that the renovation of one of the school buildings, which cost over N30m, was aimed at enhancing educational access and quality for students from underprivileged backgrounds.

At the inauguration of the three-block of classrooms at Agbara Grammar School and a renovated primary health centre at Igbesa on Wednesday, Cole mentioned that the club decided to undertake the renovation due to the dilapidated and neglected state of the school building. He further stated that the club gathered resources and expertise to carry out extensive repairs, including roof replacement, door and and windows, and installing a ceiling.

Cole explained, "Three years ago, as the director of projects, I came across this school while seeking potential projects for our Rotary year. Witnessing the deplorable condition of this building, we engaged with the school management to offer our support for its renovation." He elaborated on the approval process, indicating discussions with the commissioner for education and subsequent approval from the club's board.

Cole also mentioned that the purpose of the school building renovation was to create a conducive environment for learning and growth. He added that the club also refurbished the primary health centre in Igbesa to provide quality healthcare to the people. He reiterated the club’s commitment to empowering future generations and fostering positive change at the local level.

District Governor Ifeyinwa Ejezie reiterated the club's dedication to addressing societal challenges, emphasizing Rotary's focus areas such as basic education, literacy, health, and environmental sustainability. She also mentioned the establishment of a Rotary Community Corp to oversee project sustainability.

She added, “We are here to commission this large three block of classrooms and also commission the Igbesa health centre. All these we are doing is because we appreciate the fact that the government cannot do it alone and that Nigeria is a large country with over 200 million population. Government cannot do it alone. That’s why we join hands with the government in doing good around the world and touching our communities. 

Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, expressed gratitude to the club for its contributions to education and healthcare. She assured that the government would ensure the proper management and utilization of the renovated facilities.
