Senator Nora Ladi Daduut Heads FUTA Governing Council

The Federal Government of Nigeria inaugurated the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) on July 4, 2024. Senator Nora Ladi Daduut, a former senator and professor of French, has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially inaugurated the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA). Distinguished Senator Nora Ladi Daduut, a Professor of French Language from Plateau State and former member of the Upper Legislative Chamber (2019-2023), has been appointed as the new Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council.

Other council members include Pastor Sikiru Adebayo Raji from Oyo State, Hon. Sylvester Ogbonna from Ebonyi State, Hajia Rafaatu Garba Hammani from Kebbi State, and Rt. Hon. Kenneth Olawale, former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly.

The inauguration, conducted by the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, took place in Abuja on Thursday, July 4, 2024. The ceremony also included the inauguration of governing councils for other universities, federal polytechnics, and colleges of education.

In his address, Prof. Mamman urged the new council members to explore diverse funding sources such as partnerships with the private sector, international organizations, alumni, endowments, and sponsored research to ensure the financial sustainability of their institutions. He emphasized the judicious use of limited government funds and stressed the importance of adhering to the relevant Acts and government guidelines for appointments to ensure fairness and transparency.

Prof. Mamman concluded by advising the council members to uphold the ideals of transparency and probity in their governance.
