The Acting Vice-Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Professor Okechuku Onuchuku, has restated that he places the welfare of staff and students on the front burner in his academic and administrative leadership at the university, Myschoolnews gathered.

He identified his administration’s timely promotion of the workers as a commitment to boost their productivity and well-being but clarified that only those who meet the benchmark would be elevated. He urged those who are not successful to evaluate their performance and prepare for another opportunity.

Prof. Onuchuku made this declaration at the senior staff club during the 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the institution’s staff Cooperative Investment and Credit Society on Thursday, December 14.

Noting that many Nigerians are experiencing financial difficulties, he applauded the cooperative society for making life better for the staff by saving them from the cut-throat interest rates charged by commercial banks.

He disclosed that management insisted on giving the yearly Christmas rice despite the university’s lean resources because of the staff welfare policy and encouraged the workers to remain committed to their responsibilities as they look forward to better years.

He cited students’ low rate of payment of school fees and other charges at the institution as a reflection of the prevailing economic reality in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor praised the management of the cooperative for posting a N26 million dividend accruing from interests alone and described the account as a robust financial record.

“You have fared very well to post this interest. Those managing your money are doing well.”

However, he urged the managers to do better, tasked them with the need for transparency, commended them for keeping the system going, and wished the staff happy holidays.
