Students of Federal University Lokoja Protest After Fatal Accident Claims Eight Lives

Students of the Federal University Lokoja (FUL) in Kogi State have taken to the streets to protest a devastating road accident that killed seven students and a bus driver. The accident occurred on Monday, February 18, when an articulated truck lost control and crashed into a school shuttle bus.
The students, who began their protest on Tuesday, blocked roads leading to the university and demanded immediate government action to improve road safety. They specifically called for restrictions on heavy-duty trucks operating during the daytime to prevent future tragedies.
Emergency responders, including officers from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), were deployed to the scene to rescue trapped victims. The Kogi State FRSC Sector Commander, Samuel Oyedeji, confirmed that several bodies were taken to the morgue, and the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The Kogi State Deputy Governor visited the university entrance to sympathize with the grieving students and the university community. However, students have vowed to continue their protest until concrete measures are taken to prevent further accidents.
The university community is still reeling from the shock of the accident, and the students' protest highlights the need for urgent action to address road safety concerns in the state.
