Taraba Commissioner seeks partnership with TASU to encourage study of Science & Tech

As part of his initial efforts to encourage the study of Science and Technology among youths especially those of Taraba State indigine, the Taraba State Commissioner of Science and Technology, Hon Muslim Usman Aruwan, has embarked on earnest moves to partner with Tertiary institutions in the state to see how the State Government could interven in the institutions to enhance the study of Science and Technology across the state.

As part of the moves, the Hon. Commissioner on Monday, 28th August, 2023 paid a familiarity  visit to the Taraba State University, Jalingo to establish a sound working relationship between the Institution and the Taraba State Ministry of Science and Technology.

Addressing the management of the school during the visit, the commissioner said he was at the school to seek collaboration with the institution to see how the school and his ministry could work collaboratively to improve the study of Science and Technology in the university 

Hon Muslim commended the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas for introducing mind blowing policicies in education sector, especially slashing by half, school fees of students at the University and the free education policy in both Primary and Secondary Schools in the state, adding that the kind gesture would go along way to enhance training of children among parents in the state 

"I want to particularly thank the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas for doing alot for just few months in office. The governor has slashed by half, school fees of students in Taraba State University and School of Nursing and Midwifery, he has been able to bring on board, youth like some of us in his cabinet. The governor is doing all these because he wants dividends of democracy to reach at the door steps of each and every Taraban and there is every need we take advantage of this gesture.

"I want to use this opportunity to assure you that we shall not rest on our oars. We will continue to apply all our vibrant, youthful ideas in our various Ministries to ensure that His Excellency's Moving Forward mantra is executed effectively. My visit here is part of efforts to see that the dream of His Excellency, Dr Agbu Kefas on Taraba State is achieved". The commissioner stressed.

He called on the people of Taraba State to give the governor together with his cabinet, maximum support to enable him succeed

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Sunday Paul Bako, while receiving the Hon Commissioner in his office, assured him and his entourage of their readiness to partner with the ministry under the leadership of the Executive Governor of Taraba state, Dr Agbu Kefas in lifting Science and Technology to its highest peak in the state.

The VC also disclosed that Non Governmental Organisations NGO'S, and international bodies are also welcome to partner with the institution in areas of Science and Technology.

In a goodwill message at the session, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Dr S.A Munta, commended the Hon Commissioner for finding time to visit the school at such an auspicious time. He identified lack of Central workshop among other things as some of the challenges hampering effective learning of Science and Technology at the institution and appealed to the governor to interven inoder to help staff member to perform optimally in their departments.

Meanwhile, the Hon Commissioner was taken round the Agric department, Electric laboratories, mechanical engineering laboratories and general faculty workshop to see some of the projects carried out by the students of the departments in the university.

He was shown  Electric Powered Baking Machine, Solar Cooker, Parabolic Solar Drier, Solar Driven Keke NAPEP,  Multicrop Cereal Thresher,  Mechanical Power Weeding Machine, Rolling Machine, Lathe Machine, Drilling Machine, Digital Universal Testing Machine among others, all made by the students of the engineering department of the state university.
