Team Storm, representing Godfrey Okoye University Enugu, has successfully advanced to the next stage of the DebateCoolit tournament, sponsored by the Enugu State Government. The team secured their spot by winning a fiercely contested knockout debate against Team Spartans from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

This achievement marks Team Storm and Team Emerald as the first two teams to advance in the tournament. Team Emerald is set to face Team Great Lions next week. Support and encouragement for both teams are highly encouraged.

The tournament’s opening ceremony featured notable speeches from Vice-Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of Godfrey Okoye University, Professor Gozie Ogbodo. Professor Ogbodo addressed the significance of the debate amid Nigeria’s current economic challenges, urging youths to embrace themes of freedom, tolerance, and acceptance.

Mrs. Dera Okenwa, Senior Special Assistant to the Enugu State Governor on Social Culture and Self Development, emphasized the event’s role in helping young people develop their speaking skills, organize their thoughts, and form impactful opinions. Okenwa highlighted that the tournament, which runs for ten weeks, aims to sensitize youths on socio-cultural issues and foster leadership qualities for the future.
