The Pointer Newspaper Honors DELSU VC Prof. Egwunyenga for Excellence in Education and Public Service

The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, received the prestigious Award for Excellence in Public Service and Educational Administration from Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation, publishers of The Pointer Newspaper.

The award ceremony took place at the Grand Hotel in Asaba on Monday, during the celebration of The Pointer's 30th anniversary.

The management of Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation honored Prof. Egwunyenga in recognition of his exemplary career in education and public service, highlighting his contributions as a teacher, unionist, Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku (2007-2011), and Vice Chancellor of DELSU (2019-2024). Under his leadership, DELSU attained full accreditation for all academic programs, enhanced welfare for staff and students, and improved its national and international reputation.

As a result, the university now ranks 23rd among Nigerian universities, 3rd among state universities, and is the top state university in the South-South and South-East regions. Notably, DELSU became the first Nigerian university to implement a policy on the responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education.

Following the award, Prof. Egwunyenga expressed his gratitude, attributing his achievements to divine grace and his commitment to advancing public service and education. He affirmed his dedication to contributing to these sectors even after his term as Vice Chancellor concludes on November 30, 2024.

Prof. Egwunyenga was accompanied by a delegation of senior university officials, including Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. (Mrs) Rosemary Ngozi Okoh, Provost of Oleh Campus Prof. Elo Ibagere, Dean of Postgraduate School Prof. Suny Awhefedaa, and University Orator Prof. (Mrs) Enajite Eseoghene Ojaruega.

Dr. Patrick Ijeh, Deputy Director of Ceremonials, Information, and Public Relations at DELSU, was also present at the event, emphasizing the significance of Prof. Egwunyenga's contributions to the institution and education in Nigeria.
