Reports surfaced via anonymous accounts on social media, specifically using the hashtag “#EndSACultureInCMUL”, detailing several incidents involving students from different academic levels. Among the cases cited are allegations involving a 200-level Pharmacy male and a 200-level Medicine female in March 2024, and another incident in late June allegedly between a 300-level male Pharmacy student and a female colleague in 200-level Radiography. Additionally, a 600-level male Medicine student has been accused of multiple offenses against female students across various levels.

Concerns have been raised regarding the university’s response to these allegations. It is reported that while the first case was brought to UNILAG’s student affairs division in March, the response was deemed inadequate by critics. The university allegedly imposed a ₦5,000 fine on the accused, described as a serial offender, prompting further dissatisfaction among students and activists.

In response to the escalating outcry, UNILAG management issued a statement urging victims to officially report incidents to the office of the dean, Student Affairs Division at the Akoka campus. The management emphasized its zero tolerance policy towards sexual misconduct and promised a thorough investigation into the allegations.

This development comes in the wake of previous scandals at UNILAG, including a 2019 sex-for-grade scandal involving staff members. The university has faced scrutiny over its handling of such cases and is under pressure to ensure transparency and accountability in addressing allegations of sexual misconduct among its student body.
