UAT’s Institute for Continuing Education Holds Maiden Orientation Programme

The Institute for Continuing Education (ICE) of the University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT), on Saturday, November 1, 2025, held its maiden orientation programme for part-time students, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s effort to expand access to higher education.

The Institute for Continuing Education (ICE) of the University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT), on Saturday, November 1, 2025, held its maiden orientation programme for part-time students, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s effort to expand access to higher education.

In his welcome address, the Acting Director of the Institute, Dr. Timinepre Court, announced that the Institute commenced academic activities with sixty-four students, out of which sixty have completed their online registration process. Addressing the pioneer students, he urged them to balance work and study responsibly, uphold the university’s values, attend classes regularly, and remain committed to learning.

Dr. Court expressed appreciation to the University Management for its continuous support in funding, logistics, and administration, which has enabled the smooth takeoff of the Institute. He also thanked the Vice Chancellor, Professor Solomon Tamarabrakemi Ebobrah, for his presence and encouragement.

In his remarks, Professor Ebobrah reiterated the university’s guiding slogan — “Building a culture of creative hard work, excellence, and responsible citizenship.” He emphasized that while students must work hard, they should also work smart and strive for continuous improvement. He assured the ICE students that they are an integral part of the UAT community, enjoying the same academic recognition and opportunities as regular students.

Similarly, the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Professor Demola Jolayemi, admonished the students to embrace diligence and integrity, stressing that the university maintains a zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice. He outlined various forms of examination misconduct and cautioned students against engaging in them.

Other speakers at the event included the Bursar, represented by Dr. Michael Ogori; the Acting Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Dunu Benson; and the Acting ICT Director, Mr. Evans Porbeni, who each provided guidance on their respective administrative and academic responsibilities.

The event also featured an interactive session where students engaged with university management and sought clarifications on academic and administrative matters.

Among those present were Professor Okoro Abeki, Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences; Dr. Koroye, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Education; Heads of Departments, and other members of staff.
