UBTH Appoints Professor Idia Ize-Iyamu as First Female Chief Medical Director

Professor Idia Ize-Iyamu has been appointed as the first female Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH). The appointment, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is effective from August 18, 2025, for a four-year term.

Professor Ize-Iyamu is a globally trained specialist, Commonwealth Fellow, and Craniofacial Orthodontist with expertise from Oxford University Teaching Hospital, UK, and the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. She has over 27 years of service in UBTH, serving as Head of Department for over 11 years and Dean of the School of Dentistry.

As CMD, Professor Ize-Iyamu aims to position UBTH as a model teaching hospital in Nigeria, focusing on people-first service delivery, uncompromising quality assurance, and strategic innovation.
