UBTH commissions Airway Simulation Centre

The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has commissioned Airway Simulation Centre in the hospital, Myschoolnews report.

The passage where air passes into the lungs can be blocked (airway). If this occurs, difficulty with breathing can occur which could lead to death if there is no experienced person to help to relieve the obstruction. Breathing passage blockage can also occur in unconscious patients.

Because of the importance of breathing, the Airway Incorperation International and Society of Specialties in Airway Management of Nigeria established centers all over Nigeria to teach people how to overcome these difficulties so that they can help patients that can not breath well. The University of Benin Teaching Hospital was one of the designated center. 

On Tuesday 3rd, October 2023 the University of Benin Teaching Hospital officially commissioned its Airway Simulation Center.The occasion was chaired by Professor of Anaesthesiology, Dr Amadasun F.E.

The opening ceremony was followed by a workshop on how to manage breathing problems.

With the official commissioning of the Simulation Center, schedule for different training sessions will be rolled out within the coming months for various target audience.

The simulation center is located at the Department of Anaesthesiology Simulation room at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital Benin City.
