UDUS Students Seek Street Lights at Jibril Aminu Hostels

Students residing in the halls of residence at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), have come together to raise a collective plea to the university management: install street lights at the Jibril Aminu hostels. Their call for action stems from growing concerns over safety and security within the hostel premises, which have been plagued by darkness, especially during the night. For students living in Jibril Aminu hostels, the lack of adequate lighting within the premises has created an atmosphere of apprehension and fear. The absence of street lights has been a cause for discomfort, particularly during nighttime hours.

Mohammed Abubakar, a 400-level student of Forestry residing at Block C of the Jibril Aminu hostel, emphasized the urgent need for street lights. He stated, "The installation of street lights will surely protect students from thieves and also expose other criminals from roaming the hostel premises." His sentiment is shared by many of his fellow students who have experienced or heard of security incidents in poorly lit areas.

Safety and security are paramount concerns for both students and the university administration. Adequate illumination not only deters potential criminal activity but also promotes a sense of comfort and security among residents. Street lights can significantly enhance visibility, making it easier for students to move around the premises safely, especially during the darker hours of the day. As the collective plea from students gains momentum, the university management is urged to consider the installation of street lights at Jibril Aminu hostels as a priority. Such a move would not only enhance the quality of life for students but also underscore the university's commitment to their safety and well-being.
