The University of Ibadan (UI) has officially inaugurated the management board for the TETFund Centre of Excellence for Diaspora Studies. The event, conducted by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Professor Peter Olapegba, was on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale.

The establishment of the Centre follows the UI-NIDCOM Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed in 2023, a collaboration between the University of Ibadan and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM). This partnership aims to enhance research and policy development in diaspora studies.

During the inauguration, Professor Olapegba emphasized the board's crucial role in policy approval and implementation oversight, ensuring the Centre meets its set objectives. He also noted that the board would regularly report its activities to the Vice-Chancellor to maintain transparency and accountability.

Professor Senayon Olaoluwa, Director of the TETFund Centre of Excellence for Diaspora Studies, expressed gratitude to Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa and NIDCOM for their unwavering support, and praised the University of Ibadan for its dedication to establishing the Centre.

The board comprises notable representatives, including Hon. Abdulrahman Terab, Head of Technology Transfer and Innovation at NIDCOM, and Mr. Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NIDCOM’s Director of Media/Public Relations. Additional members include directors and deans from various faculties within the University of Ibadan, such as the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences, Law, Multidisciplinary Studies, and representatives from the Research Management Office, the Institution of African Studies, and departments of English, Medicine, and Sociology.
