UI Muslim Community Honours Prof. Musa Oladipupo Ajilogba Abdul, Renames Civic Centre in His Honour

The University of Ibadan Muslim Community has honoured Prof. Musa Oladipupo Ajilogba Abdul, the first indigenous member of the academic staff of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, by renaming its ultra-modern civic centre after him.

The University of Ibadan Muslim Community has paid tribute to Prof. Musa Oladipupo Ajilogba Abdul, the first indigenous member of the academic staff of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, by renaming its ultra-modern civic centre after him. This honour recognizes Prof. Abdul's legacy and significant contributions to the growth of Islam within the university community.

Prof. Ismail Azeez, the Publicity Secretary of the community, announced the renaming in a statement, highlighting Prof. Abdul's instrumental role in the resurgence of Islam on campus. Prof. Abdul's leadership has been pivotal in driving various developmental projects for the Muslim community at the university, with his latest contribution being the establishment of the ultra-modern mosque.

Born in 1926 to the family of renowned Islamic cleric Alfa Abdulazeez of Ijebu-Ode, Prof. Abdul joined the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies at the University of Ibadan in 1964, just two years after its establishment. Throughout his tenure, he championed initiatives aimed at promoting Islamic education and fostering a strong sense of community among Muslim students and staff.

The statement further highlighted the University of Ibadan Muslim Community's commitment to enhancing Islamic education by establishing an adult Qur'an class in the mosque's boardroom. As the class grew in popularity, the community embarked on constructing the current Islamic Centre, a facility designed to accommodate the Qur'an class and serve as a venue for social events.

The renaming of the ultra-modern civic centre in honour of Prof. Abdul underscores the university community's deep appreciation for his lifelong dedication to advancing Islamic studies and enriching the lives of Muslim students and staff at the University of Ibadan.
