UI VC Declares University of Ibadan a “Reservoir of Solutions” at Industry Conference

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, fspsp, has described the institution as a “reservoir of solutions,” emphasizing its vital role in addressing national and global challenges through research, innovation, and collaboration.

He made the declaration at the opening of the University-Industry Conference organised by the University’s Research Development Committee (UI-RESDEV) with support from the Postgraduate School and in collaboration with the DAWN Commission.

Speaking on the theme, “Research, Innovation and Development: A Tripod for Meeting Societal Needs,” Professor Adebowale noted that across various faculties—from Agriculture addressing food security, to Pharmaceutical Sciences developing new drugs, to Technology advancing engineering solutions, and to the Social Sciences crafting governance policies—the University’s researchers are consistently contributing to national development.

He defined research as the systematic pursuit of knowledge, innovation as the translation of that knowledge into practical solutions, and development as the tangible outcome that improves lives, drives economic growth, and addresses societal challenges.

The Vice-Chancellor observed that these three pillars often operate in isolation, resulting in a gap between university research and real-world development. He therefore called for stronger partnerships between academia and industry to ensure that academic discoveries translate into measurable societal benefits, declaring that the University of Ibadan “is open for business, partnership, and collaboration.”
