UNICAL Medical Center Records 76 Safe Deliveries and Gains NHIS Approval for Specialist Services

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) Medical Center has achieved 76 safe normal deliveries since April 2022, with the Director of Health Services, Dr. Kaiser Etta, sharing details of these successes. The center also received approval from the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to provide specialist services, further enhancing its healthcare offerings.

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) Medical Center has according to reports checks made by Myschoolnews correspondent, recorded successful delivery of 76 safe, normal deliveries from April 2022 to the present day.

This milestone was revealed by the Director of Health Services, Dr. Kaiser Etta, in an exclusive interview with the University's Public Relations Unit.

Breaking down the deliveries, Dr. Etta disclosed that 41 male and 23 female babies were born through 'spontaneous safe virginal deliveries' at the Medical Center during this period. The center also provided referrals for 6 cases involving pregnancy complications to other healthcare facilities, including the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).

Notably, Dr. Kaiser shared that the Medical Center had no recorded cases of maternal mortality during the review period, highlighting the quality of care provided.

In a significant development, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has approved the introduction of specialist services at the UNICAL Medical Center. These specialist services encompass Obstetrics and Gynecologist services, Radiology Services, Ophthalmology, Mental Health, and Psychiatric Clinic Services, among others.
