UNICAL VC Lauds Indorama Ltd for Rewarding Academic Excellence
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi has lauded the Indorama Eleme Fertilizer & Chemicals Limited (IFCL) Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme for rewarding academic eaxcellence.

Prof. Obi while welcoming officials of IFCL to her office, commended what she described as their good and wonderful gestures geared towards encouraging the girl child education across the country.
The Varsity Administrator said that the scholarship award will go a long way in ensuring that female students are motivated to go into agriculture devoid of the usual cold feet for the course.

Prof. Obi also charged the IFCL to create some awareness and sensitization programs that will ensure that students study hard and do the needful should they desire to enjoy such benefits.
She also said that the University has been recording a lot of giant strides in diverse endeavours globally, noting that, this has been attracting huge collaborations and partnerships for the Institution.

In a remark, the leader of the team and Marketing Executive of IFCL, Mr. Awolola Ibukun said the company is a fertilizer-producing company situated at Eleme in Rivers State with agriculture as its area of specialty.
Mr. Ibukun informed that the objective of the project is to promote girl child education.
In his words; "what a man can do, a woman can do better".
He noted that the scholarship award provides each beneficiary with one hundred fifty thousand naira cash to help them in their academic pursuits.
He hinted that as a beneficiary of the scholarship, the student automatically becomes an ambassador of IFCL- Undergraduate Scholarship Reward for Academic Excellence, adding that, the individual's picture and name could also be used in any of the company's advertorials as a role model to other students.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of cash awards to the two beneficiaries; a 400-level female student in the Department of Soil Science, Ovat Sharon Donard and her male counterpart in the Department of Crop Science, George Darlington Usang, both of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Calabar.
